Darren is Canadian-American, born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, with strong family ties across the border in Detroit. Adriana is Mexican-American, born and raised in San Diego, spending her childhood between Chula Vista/San Ysidro and family visits in Tijuana.
Our lives have always been shaped by the pulse of border towns — where cultures meet, overlap, and create something uniquely vibrant. With over 25 years of professional kitchen experience (Darren has worked in some of Canada’s top restaurants) and a shared love for traditional foodways, we created Border City Ferments to celebrate living foods that heal, nourish, and tell a story.
Our small-batch ferments are inspired by the places and people who raised us. Every jar and bottle is made with seasonal ingredients, time-honored processes, and bold flavor — blending the science of fermentation with the tastes of our borderland roots.
We believe good food connects people — across generations, cultures, and neighborhoods.

Darren es canadiense-estadounidense, nacido y criado en Windsor, Ontario, con fuertes lazos familiares al otro lado de la frontera, en Detroit. Adriana es mexicoamericana, nacida y criada en San Diego, y pasó su infancia entre Chula Vista/San Ysidro y visitas familiares en Tijuana.
Nuestra vida siempre ha estado marcada por el ritmo de las ciudades fronterizas — donde las culturas se encuentran, se mezclan y crean algo único y vibrante. Con más de 25 años de experiencia en cocinas profesionales (Darren ha trabajado en algunos de los mejores restaurantes de Canadá) y un amor compartido por las tradiciones culinarias, creamos Border City Ferments para celebrar alimentos vivos que sanan, nutren y cuentan una historia.
Nuestros fermentos en pequeños lotes están inspirados en los lugares y las personas que nos criaron. Cada frasco y botella se hace con ingredientes de temporada, procesos tradicionales y sabores fuertes — mezclando la ciencia de la fermentación con los sabores de nuestras raíces fronterizas.
